With chilly starts and evenings now book-ending mild May days the last vestiges of Autumn are upon us - great swirls of crimson, gold and yellow leaves playing cat and mouse with yard brooms all across the district. No matter as there’s no better weather for evening meals out and we are open for dinner 4 nights a week, Wed-Sat from 6pm. It is my early morning task to light the cottage hearth as - great company aside - there is simply no better accomplice to good food and wine, than the cheery glow of an open wood fire. A huge thanks to Liz and Duncan Anderson for supplying our wood - it’s generous support like this that characterizes the ambiance here - warm and hospitable.
Our dinner menu currently includes salmon,twice cooked lamb shoulder, steak and crunch potatoes, and sauteed scallops on creamy polenta, amongst other options. A rich mushroom ragout with panko crumbed eggplant makes for a popular plant-based option. Wherther you go for dessert or not you can leave the clearing up to us while you head home to enjoy some valuable couch time. Friday and Saturday dinners are perfect opportunities to hit the go slow button and enjoy table time with friends, family or colleagues. Not only are we moments drive from the main street we’ve got lots of parking day and night.
We’ve rolled out a refreshed lunch menu, which has been really well received in its initial week. It includes a crunchy lamb pastilla (pas-tee-ya) a light yet tasty Greek style filo pie, indulgent fresh beer battered fresh fish with winter slaw and hand-cut Agria chips, and a deluxe seafood chowder which optimizes this hearty cold-weather meal in a bowl. All have met with very favorable feedback. Don’t worry, the roast beetroot salad hasn’t gone anywhere! For our summer steak sandwich fans, this has enjoyed a cool weather make over in a ‘US diner style’ and is an even more substantial dish. The fish and our hotcakes remain firm favourites with younger diners.
